Hello, I'm Ava
Project manager. Parent. Expat living in Austin, United States.
A few years back I moved here with my family; what began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Began
Moving to United States wasn't part of the plan we had. Like many international assignments, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far larger.
The early months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, fresh expectations. Everyday tasks felt more complicated than intended.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. But gradually, routines took shape. We found places that suited us, met other families, and began building something that felt steady.
Why I Built Soft Marble Box
Most information online was either corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism material. What was missing was an honest, everyday family viewpoint.
This site exists to fill that gap—practical guidance drawn from real life in United States.
What This Site Represents (And Does Not)
This site IS:
- Real-world experience from residing in United States
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever a real change occurs
This site ISN'T:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- Not a sponsored review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Our stay in United States continues, and the learning journey goes on as well. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep recording what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Austin or anywhere in United States, don't hesitate to reach out.
